"Green Hedge" Bamboo
Bambusa Multiplex Green Hedge
This listing is for a single bamboo division. Basically, this is the propagation process we use when we are creating more inventory to sell. We take a mature plant and divide the roots into smaller sections, each with at least one cane. The division may or may not have left - we will trim the cane at the 1st or 2nd node and it will be 9 to 18 inches tall. We have very good success with these divisions' survival and we would expect you to as well.
Green Hedge is the quintessential bamboo used for hedges and screens. It has a nice upright habit and side shoots that will grow all the way to the bottom node on the cane, thus giving you a very nice dense screen down to the ground.
The canes can grow to 25 feet tall if left untrimmed, though a more normal size is 18 feet; within 4 years the base will be approximately 4 feet in diameter and the spread overhead will be between 8 and 12 feet. This bamboo will create a living wall if you need a screening bamboo.
However, if you wish a more controlled growth, this bamboo can be trimmed to a much shorter hedge. Bamboo canes, when cut, will produce significant side growth that will extend approximately 2 feet above the height of the cut cane. Once a cane is cut, it will not grow taller, but rather the side shoots and leaves become thicker and bushier. This makes a very nice and thick hedge. Imagine a hedge that you never have to cut a branch more than once during its lifetime! A great labor saver! When I grew bamboo as a hedge, I trimmed it once a year when the new canes were growing and then I was done!
The first picture is of the bamboo trimmed as a hedge. The second picture is of a 4-year-old clump. The third picture is a sample of some of my one-gallon sizes but is not the exact plant that you will receive.
Green Hedge has a nice bright green color in the canes and leaves with white sheaths that are a striking contrast. The sheath will drop as the cane matures. It is happy with full sun to part or dappled shade.
You will get a nice one-gallon plant that is currently 36 inches or more in height. Such’s pot will remove and possibly some of the soil to save you on shipping charges. It will be packaged to retain moisture.
Shipments to Hawaii, Alaska or US protectorates require a shipping increase – please contact before purchase with your zip code and I will provide the best shipping rates possible.
No shipments to ARIZONA.
Your plants are guaranteed to arrive safely and alive. If you have any issue, please advise me within 24 hours of receipt along with a picture of the plant in question and we will work through any problem.
