Echinacea is in a group of herbaceous flowering plants in the daisy family. The Echinacea genus has nine species, which are commonly called purple coneflowers. They are found only in eastern and central North America, where they are found growing in moist to dry prairies and open wooded areas. They have large, showy heads of composite flowers, blooming from early to late summer.
Recommended Uses:
The plant has a general stimulatory effect on the immune system and is widely used in modern herbal treatments
The roots and the whole plant are considered particularly beneficial in the treatment of sores, wounds, burns, etc, possessing cortisone-like and antibacterial activity
Used to treat the common cold, cough and bronchitis, fevers and colds, urinary tract infections, inflammation of the mouth and pharynx, increase resistance to infection, wounds, and burns
Growing Instructions:
Start Indoors in trays 8-10 weeks before planting outside. Echinacea Purpurea does not need stratifying but recommended. Surface sow seed on soil pressing lightly. Needs light to germinate. Keep moist. Germinates in 5-20 days. Transplant to 3inch pots after true leaves show. Harden off for 10-15 days before planting 18-24” apart in full sun in late winter/early spring or late summer/early autumn.
