Leek, Giant Musselburgh Seed Pack, allium ampeloprasum, 50 seeds per packGiant Musselburgh Leek (Allium ampeloprasum)Buyer will get 50 seeds per packHeight: 15 inchHardiness: zones: USDA 3-11Maturity: 100 DaysThe Giant Musselburgh Leek is an heirloom variety of leek that was introduced in 1834 near Edinburgh, Scotland. A dependable leek, which produces thick white, stalks 2-3 inches in diameter growing up to 15 inches long, having a tasty mild flavor. Leeks are a frost-hardy cool season crop requiring a long growing period and this variety is no different.Origination: EuropeRecommended Uses: Culinary Growing Instructions: Sow directly into beds in the full sun 2-4 weeks before the last expected frost. Barely cover the seeds with soil (about 1/8th of an inch) and water in well. When plants reach 6 inches you may thin out some of the smaller weaker plants. You may also plant leeks in trenches, and slowly fill them in once the plant has grown some. Doing this blanches the stalk of the leek, making it longer. Water during dry periods. Harvest in late summer or early fall before frost. The shafts should be 2-3 inches in diameter. If frost is inevitable, you can mulch using a straw to help keep the leeks healthy.
