Eleonora basil is a perfect variety of basil to use if you’ve had problems with downy mildew in the past. The leaf shape and more open habit make this variety naturally less susceptible to basil downy mildew, a bigger problem in humid environments. Having spicier flavor than traditional pesto types means this added protection from mildew doesn’t come at a cost to flavor. A rapidly growing variety makes it perfect for replanting for continual harvest throughout the season.
Growing Instructions:
Start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date. Star indoors in seed starting medium in 2” cells. Barely cover seeds, tamp down and keep moist until germination in 1-2 weeks. Light aids germination. Bump up to 4” pot when two sets of true leaves are present. Harden off and transplant to full sun, rich, well-draining location after last danger of frost has passed. Keep moist until established.
