Zingiber officinale. Grows to about 4 feet. The common cooking ginger can’t match its showy cousins in the foliage department but it holds its own in the cooking category. Easy to grow in a container and brought indoors when cold temperatures arrive. Will reach 4 feet in shade. 2 1/2 feet in sunnier spots. Grows in part shade to mostly shade. Don’t let soil remain too wet. Moist well-drained soil. Zones 8 - 12.
