Bearberry, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, 20 Seeds (Edible, Hardy Evergreen Ground Cover)Bearberry is an extremely cold hardy, slow growing, evergreen ground cover that grows generally 6 to 12 inches high and 3 to 6 feet wide. Over time, the Bearberry can form a dense mat, slowly spreading to cover a very large area to 15 feet in diameter. Leaves are small, glossy and dark green that turn red in winter. Bark is an attractive red-gray and exfoliates with age. Small white to pink, urn-shaped flowers bloom in April thru May and are followed by bright red edible fruits in August. The fruits are eaten by birds and other wildlife, including bears, (Uva-ursi means bear's grape).
