The ancient olive variety Canino originated in the area around Rome and has been grown there for centuries to produce some of the finest extra virgin olive oils in the world. It will also grow well in California from the coast up to 1650 feet. The trees have a tall upright shape and produce an abundance of small olives. The trees hold on to their fruit with very little fruit drop during the growing season. Canino olives mature later than most. The trees are resistant to pests such as olive fly and olive knot as well as being less sensitive to wind and cold than many varieties. They produce an average quantity of oil, but of superior quality!
