Betel leaf plant (piper betel) is a creeper grown in tropics; it belongs to pepper family. Its waxy green, heart shaped leaves are used for medicinal and culinary purposes. When crushed, it exudes cool peppery scent. Not to be confused with betel nut. it is mainly used to add flavour. It may also be used in cooking, usually raw, for its peppery taste.This mildly stimulant herb is famous in whole South Asia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
